Samsung new upcoming smart phone read more ;
While Samsung’s flagship
devices from the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series continue to feature true
flagship grade features, one area where the company has fallen behind some of
its competitors (mainly Huawei) is with regards to the camera. While there
is no denying that most images captured using Samsung flagships come out great,
over the past few years, brands like Huawei and Honor have started to outclass
the bigger brands like Samsung and Apple in this department.
Samsung, naturally,
has been feeling the heat for a while now. The thing with Samsung, however, is
that they are such a diverse conglomerate, all it usually takes is a bit of
help from another department within the company to fix a nagging problem. And this
time, a Samsung subsidiary called Samsung Electro-Mechanics has come to the
Samsung Mobile Divisions’ rescue. Among the many things that Samsung
Electro-Mechanics manufactures, one crucial part happens to be camera modules.
The company recently announced that they have now started
mass-producing an entirely new camera module that offers up to 5X optical zoom
– without the need for a camera bump.

Zoom Camera Module: What’s New?
If you have been
following Samsung for a few years, you would perhaps know that the company has
had several devices in the past that featured loss-less optical zoom. Devices
like the Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Galaxy K Zoom all came with
an astonishing 10x zoom capability. The problem with these devices, however,
was that all of them had a substantial camera bump at the rear along with
several moving parts. This new 5x zoom camera module from the company solves
all these problems. This new module, according to Samsung, will offer 5x
optical zoom within the confines of a sensor that currently only manages to do
2x optical zoom. The problem with achieving such a level of zoom in a module so
tiny comes down to basic physics. The basic requirement for achieving optical
zoom is to have the lens and the image sensor to be at a certain distance from
each other. With phones, this distance usually has to be in the multiples of a
few millimeters. The larger the distance between them, the bigger the camera
module and as a result, the bigger the camera bump becomes.
The new module from
Samsung has ditched the conventional method of stacking sensors and lenses on
top of each other (vertically) and uses a periscope structure. This is very
similar to the arrangement that we saw on the Huawei P30 Pro that lets it
achieve 5x optical zoom. What we do not know is how much smaller the Samsung
module is compared to the one on the Huawei.

Zoom Camera Module: Will the Galaxy Note 10 Use It?
While we do not know
anything about the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 as of now, there have been rumors
about the device likely to come with a vertical rear camera setup. There is
some chance, therefore, that this periscope-style camera module would be placed
at the bottom of the camera set up on the Note 10.
That being said,
there is also a chance that the first phone to feature this camera module would
be an entirely different product from the company. Since Samsung also sells
these modules to other players, there is also a possibility of other brands
featuring 5x optical zoom cameras using this very sensor.
